This was my own version of a Caravaggio painting, a detail of his Pieta. I painted in reverse, by accident. It is a mirror image of my own death in Christs’, and my own grief in hers.
The poem from ancient verses are so powerful, so moving to me. “Return to the most sorrowful woman, the body, even if only lifeless, so that, although so diminished, the crucified man may grow, with kisses, with embraces.” (Planctus ante nescia)
